22nd Edition of Vodafone Ghana Music Awards: VGMA22 – Day 1

The 22nd edition of Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA22) was held on Friday, 25th June 2021 at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre. The two (2) day event which has been scheduled to end on 26th June, will continue today with last batch of the awards. In all thirteen (13) awards has been dispatched already to the various winners who really deserve it.

Carried live by TV3 Ghana, the awards night was co-hosted by Giovanni Caleb and AJ Sarpong and had sterling performances from top Ghanaian musicians such as Cina Soul, Dope Nation, Epixode, Fameye, Kofi Kinaata, Sister Afia, Okyeame Kwame, Dead Peeple and all others. The highlight of the night came when Bob Pinodo was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award to the delight of the audience.

Beautiful songstress Adina Thembi won the Record of the Year with her hit song Daddy’s Little Girl, whiles the Video of the Year went to MzVee’s single release ‘Baddest Boss’ featuring Mugeez. The new revelation in the was Abiana who surpringly won female Vocalist of the Year with her new song Adun Lei.

Kofi Kinaata made history by winning the Songwriter of the Year for the record 4th time, he actually won it with this song, ‘Behind the Scenes’. The only gospel artist who picked up an award in the night was MOG Music, honestly he won the Male Vocalist of the Year with his song, ‘Oguamma’. The new category, ‘Music for Good’ went to the female music artist, Yaayaa and the rest followed in that order.

The VGMA22 red carpet experience felt pretty good, co-hosted by Kwadwo Addo, Adwoa Noella, and Chrystal K. Aryee, it was uber cool with Ghanaian celebrities and high profile personalities passing through. The 2021 edition of the award ceremony was produced by Charter House with support from KPMG, Dstv and mainly sponsored by Vodafone Ghana.
