Ghana’s Hiplife legend Obrafour celebrates 20 years of the release of his album “Paemuka” (way back since 1999) with grand occasional music concert which paraded the country’s best performing artistes to a spectacular show at the Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday, 9th November, 2019.
The night was a memorable one with a host of style personalities and celebraties to cheer and actually celebrate a legend who has contributed so much to the hiplife genre and Ghana music in general. In attendance was ace broadcaster Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD), Actress Yvonne Nelson, Naa Ashorkor, Nana Ama McBrown, Moesha Boduong, Prince David Osei, Stephen Appiah, KalyBos, Derrick Kwabena Boney (DKB), Coded, DJ Black and all others.
The atmosphere was indeed electrifying with sterling performances from super special artistes such as Hiplife Grand Papa Reggie Rockstone, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, R2Bees, Joey B, King Promise, Samini, Tic-tac, Kofi B, Bisa Kdei, Edem, Kwaw Kese, Akwaboah Jr, and a host of many others. Honestly, it was an incredible night, the celebration was magical; according to JoyNews, Obrafour “is known to have commercialised the genre” (hiplife music in Ghana). He admitted to the fact that he picked up pen to write his rap lyrics after hearing about Reggie Rockstone, as a matter of fact, he did it because of him.
Evidently, the father-son relationship was there, it became clear when Sarkodie who’s seen as Obrafour’s godson joined him on stage to perform, it was the highlight of the night. Raggae dancehall artiste, Samini literally point out that, had it been Obrafour who paved the way, some of them wouldn’t have made it to this end. “We’re here to celebrate a legend, I don’t even have the words to describe what people like Obrafour mean to people like us”, he said.
Known in private life as Michael Elliott Kwabena Okyere Darko, Obrafour solemnly paid tribute to the late Music icon Ebony Reigns by wearing a T-Shirt that had Ebony’s picture printed on it. The PaeMuka@20 concert was supported by Joy prime, Hitz FM and the entire multimedia group. It was about that time again when hip life music genres in Ghana was celebrated.
