The president of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo delivered the State of the Nation Address on Thursday, 20th February 2020 at Parliament House, Accra Ghana; in accordance with the article 67 of the 1992 constitution.
The annual public confidential event gives the president the right to account for his honorable leadership over the last year and ultimately project the good plans of his government for the year. However the opposition NDC which is the minority in parliament boycoytted the 2020 State of the Nation Address (for reasons best known to them) leaving the president to address the Speaker, the Majority, the dignitaries and functionaries as well as the large audience. Probably the NPP government has under performed or has nothing good to offer Ghanaians, but there’s more to it than meets the eye. Possibly they would done better than what has been achieved with the current Akufo Addo’s administration.
Meanwhile the success of the Year of Return and the sustained effort of Beyond the Return, has placed Ghana on the international map for tourists attraction, invester confidence and economic returns. In this regard, the government has made a big name itself and earned the trust of the people. A host of Ghanaians are very much available and can see through, everyone might as well appreciate and tip President Akufo-Addo to win the 2020 elections in order to continue with his developments for Ghana.
The State of the Nation Address was succinct and touched on sensitive areas such as the Year of Return and Beyond the Return, Agriculture, Community Mining and measures to deal with Galamsey, digitisation, state, and growth of the economy amongst others. Many were expecting to hears things concerning Ghana Beyond Aid, but not that much was said. Here’s what the president said to conclude the State of the Nation Address; “it’s time we all learn to take responsibility for our individual health and accept that our health is very much determined by our lifestyle “.
