The President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been re-elected for a second term as the Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The statement was contained in a communique issued by the Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS, after a general consensus emerged that H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo should continue for a second term (one more year) as Chair of ECOWAS Authority to oversee the implementation of the ‘Reform’.
This was made known at the end of the 59th Ordinary Session held on Saturday, 19th June 2021 at Accra, Ghana. The 14 Heads of State and Government present at the session expressed sincere appreciation to Ghana’s president “for his leadership in steering the affairs of the Community”.
President Akufo-Addo was elected Chair of the 15-member ECOWAS at the 57th Ordinary Session of the Authority, held in September last year. He replaced President Mahamadou Issoufou of Niger who had already served his one year term as ECOWAS Chairman. See the image below!
