PRESIDENT AKUFO-ADDO RESTORES ALLOWANCES OF NURSING AND TEACHER TRAINEES

As part of his campaign promises to Ghanaians in the run-up to the 2016 electioneering campaign, the President of the Republic, Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has announced that students in the nursing training institutions and colleges of education who were at the mercy of the unfriendly policy of the outgone NDC administration in which their allowances were scrapped, will, from March this year, receive them.

This policy which wreaked financial havoc on parents has had telling effects on students in these two fields. Parents and students wailed, gnashed their teeth, protested and pleaded to the then government to rescind it’s decision on the policy, and all these attempts to have the allowances restored proved futile.

It would be recalled that the then president, when appealed to to have a second look at that insentient policy, minced no words as he categorically stated that he was prepared to lose the elections for failing to restore the allowances than restoring it to win the favour of the electorate.

The New Patriotic Party assured Ghanaians that it would restore the scrapped allowances if the electorate vote for Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the December elections. It does appear that the message was embraced by Ghanaians, especially students in these two institutions as well as their parents as they resoundingly endorsed the presidency of Nana Akufo-Addo.

Students in these two institutions this morning are filled with unmuted elation at this announcement as they expectantly await the month of its implementation.
Parents of these students are expressing their joy over this announced policy as it would lessen their financial burdens to the barest minimum. The change they voted for, it is obvious, is yielding results beyond their wildest dreams, some parents assert.
