The Supreme Court of Ghana presided over by Chief Justice Anin-Yeboah has accordingly dismissed the election 2020 petition filed by the National Democratic Candidate John Dramani Mahama (on 30th December 2020) to challenge the validity of the election 2020 results, ‘as having no merit’. This affirms Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the constitutionally elected President of the Republic of Ghana, with the mandate to serve the people this peaceful country.
The Court contended that, there was no credible evidence to prove or substantiate the petioner’s case, and that significant errors purported to have been made by the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Jane Adukwei Mensa in announcing the December 7 election results, was not in violation of the article 63, clause 3 of the 1992 constitution, as argued by the petitioner.
The petitioner, here in this case, John Manama and the NDC sought to pray to the Court to render the deceleration of election 2020 results as ‘null and void’ in order to cause a re-run, because according to them, none of the candidates had 51% which is required by law to win presidential elections in Ghana. After three months of hearing, the verdict has been given and it’s in favor of Ghana’s President, Akufo-Addo.
In a way, the verdict (judgement) was quite remarkable and has reposed confidence in the Judicial System, actually it was liberty and justice for all.
